Our globally recognised Apnea Survival Instructor certification now contains three individual certifications delivered to you one on one over of 5 days). IE Surf Apnea Instructor (2 days), Breath FX (2 days) and Cold Water Immersion Instructor (1 day).
As an Apnea Survival Instructor you’ll be instilling confidence by leading by example and will be able to provide high level demonstrations of all our drills. This ability is underpins the foundation of our courses, maintains the integrity of our instructors and brand and our industry as a whole. A moderate level of water-based mastery is required to successfully complete our assessments. Rest assured if you’ve done the pre course online learning, you will pass our 3 physical prerequisites and turn up on day one ready to rock and roll you will successfully complete the 4 day of training.

Event Details
Gear required
Swim goggles (not a dive mask), 3mm wetsuit (freediving or surfing) plus swimmers or boardies), snorkel. You will not require swim or dive fins.
One of the pools we use is outdoors and is not heated (18-20°C). We will be in this pool most mornings for 2-3 hours at a time. So please be sure to come prepared with a wetsuit, swimmers and sun protection.

Our globally recognised Apnea Survival Instructor certification now contains three individual certifications delivered to you one on one over of 5 days). IE Surf Apnea Instructor (2 days), Breath FX (2 days) and Cold Water Immersion Instructor (1 day).
All Instructor trainings are delivered with blended and flexible format options and can be tailored to meet individual needs. Including attendance at any face to face Surf Apnea course and completion of online learning materials. We also offer an RPL process for existing freediving instructors and validated subject matter experts. When you pay in full and register you receive immediate access to your online learning material. Then you can email us and we can discuss how you ‘d like to schedule completion of the remainder of the certification.
As an Apnea Survival Instructor you’ll be instilling confidence in the people you work with by leading by example and will be able to provide high level demonstrations of all our material. All Apnea Survival Instructor certifications have both practical and theory based prerequisites that must be obtained to receive each certification. A moderate level of water-based and breath holding competence is required to successfully complete the Surf Apnea Instructor requirements. Rest assured if you’ve done the pre course work and online learning, you will pass the required physical prerequisites and will successfully complete training.
If you do not or ca not pass the water based components of the course you have twelve months from the date of your enrolment to do so. We can also provide a hybrid landbased certification if the water based competencies are not obtained or desired.
Practical prerequisites / assessments
Surf Apnea Instructor – 3.30 static breath hold, 50M dynamic no fins swim (swimming 50M underwater on a single breath with out fins), 100M over under drill (Continuously swim – 25M freestyle / 25M DNF / 25M freestyle / 25M DNF). Perform / demonstrate all five Surf Apnea Pool drills.
Land based drills – Perform / demonstrate all five Surf Apnea land drills. Complete level 1 Simulated Altitude Training drill with nasal breathing only, Body Oxygen level test (BOLT) score above 30, Maximum Breathless Test (MBT) score above 60.
Cold Water Immersion Instructor – Maintain a relaxed composure and breathing for 3.30 in water 1-3 degrees C or less, Complete 5 consecutive rounds 1min CWI / 1 minute rest in water 1-3 degrees C or less, respond to hypothermia (adverse CWI reaction).
Theory assessments
Slide presentation, facilitate a course specific land based drill, complete all required online assessments.

Gear required on face to face training
- Swim goggles and dive mask (provided)
- Appropriate wetsuit (freediving or surfing 3 to 4mm) plus swimmers or board shorts (pending location)
- Sports wear ( including running shoes)
- Warm clothing (to wear following CWI)
- Use of swim fins is not permitted for instructor candidates
Some of the pools we use are outdoors and not heated (15-20°C). We will be in the pool each mornings for 3-4 hours. Be sure to come prepared with suitable wetsuit, swimmers and sun protection appropriate to the course location.
Apnea Survival (here after referred to as we) do not offer refunds for: Adhoc no shows. Non-medical withdrawals less than 14 days from an event date. Online course purchases are final. If you purchase an online course and then you decide to withdraw from that course for any reason, regardless of whether or not you have accessed any course material, you will not be eligible for any refunded, or transfer to another course, unless that course is an upgrade to your original purchase. If you decide to withdraw from any face to face or blended / zoom event, 14 days or less prior to that event for any non-medical reason, or if you have accessed any course materials (regardless of whether the you have a medical reason), online or otherwise you will not be refunded, nor will you be transferred to another course. However, for medical withdrawals where no refund is offered, if you have accessed online or other learning materials, at our discretion and upon receipt of your written request and submission of a medical certificate issued by a medical practitioner, we may transfer you to another course, if one is available. Further, a medical certificate issued by a medical practitioner is required to validate any medical withdrawal from any course that may require a refund. We will consider requests to transfer you between courses if, that request is received in writing more than 14 days prior to the event date, and pending availability of any subsequent course or date. If your event is cancelled by us or because of ‘acts of god’, etc outside of our control, we will provide a full refund to your method of payment, unless you have accessed online learning materials, in which case we will retain the equivalent of the course deposit fee (50% of the full price). If your event required the payment of a deposit and you cancel or withdraw from the event for any reason (including medical), 14 days or less prior to the event, or upon or after the date of receiving our invoice for full payment (14 days prior to the event), or you have accessed course material online or otherwise, your deposit will not be refunded. If you have any queries regarding our refund policy please contact us prior to purchasing your course / event ticket. Note : All course withdrawal related refunds will incur a $50.00 administration fee. Purchasing your ticket for any event / course is acknowledgement by you that you have read, understand and accept our refund policy.
