If you’re a freediver, yogi, breath worker, swimming coach, surf or sports coach, personal trainer, or anyone with an aquatic or performance focused skill set, our globally recognised Elemental Instructor certifications are a perfect addition to your expertise.

As an Apnea Survival Elemental Instructor, you’ll gain the tools to enhance your clients’ survivability in intense underwater scenarios, such as surfing hold-downs, while also offering a unique edge by teaching innovative techniques in breath holding, functional breathing, cold water immersion (ice baths), deliberate heat exposure, stress control and deep relaxation. These practices are guided by the Apnea Survival Elemental Pillars—Earth, Air, Water, Fire, and Ether—creating a holistic framework that helps clients ground themselves and unlock deeper levels of resilience and self-mastery.

Our training integrates the concept of “becoming your own dolphin,” tapping into the innate intelligence and adaptability humans share with the natural world. By embodying this graceful strength, you’ll help clients develop confidence and self-trust, teaching them to navigate discomfort and stress with ease.

We’ve recently expanded our Cold Water Immersion course to include the 15 new Deliberate Heat Exposure and Contrast Training modules, offering a comprehensive approach to stress management and performance optimization through the transformative interplay of hot and cold therapy.

No solid water-based skillset? No problem. You’ll have 12 months to complete the water-based prerequisites, or you can choose our hybrid land-based Breath FX (Elemental Breathing) certification option, which excludes water competencies while covering the full course content. Alternatively, explore our internationally recognised Cold Water Immersion Instructor Certification for a unique approach to breath control and contrast training.

What is Elemental Breathing?

Elemental Breathing Apnea Survival’s foundational framework for breathing fundamentals, integrating science-based techniques with nature-inspired practices. It is a structured approach to breathwork that aligns with our five elemental pillars—Earth, Fire, Water, Air, and Ether.  Offering a holistic path to mastering breath control and stress responses. By focusing on functional breathing biomechanics, biochemistry, mental anchoring, and emotional regulation, Elemental Breathing equips individuals with the tools to optimise performance, enhance recovery and build resilience. Beyond its practical applications, this method allows individuals to improve recovery, access states of deep relaxation and develop voluntary control over the nervous system, fostering greater self-awareness, self- control, emotional balance, and psychophysiological harmony.

What you’ll learn

The course emphasizes land-based breathing techniques and their application in daily life, with a focus on managing stress and discomfort through:

  • Functional breathing practices for performance and recovery.
  • Mental anchors to stay calm under pressure.
  • Practical applications of deliberate heat exposure (sauna or other heat modalities).
  • Cold water immersion and Contrast Training as a tool to refine mental focus and control stress and discomfort.

Important Note:
The breath-holding techniques taught in this course are strictly land-based and are not suitable for use in water. This course does not involve water-based breath holding or swimming skills.

Cold Water Immersion (CWI) Instructor Certification

The CWI Instructor certification now includes our Deliberate Heat Exposure course material and delves into the profound physiological and psychological transformations that occur during cold water (ice) immersion and heat exposure. By exploring these extremes, you’ll uncover how these practices can enhance breathing, stress resilience, and overall well-being.

This course equips coaches with robust tools to:

  • Enhance health and performance through deliberate exposure to environmental stressors.
