Our globally recognised and internationally accredited, Apnea Survival Instructor certification is a jam packed, intensive five day, very hands on and practical face to face course.  The course includes the globally recognised and internationally accredited Apnea Survival Instructor certification,  Breath Fx (functional breathing) and Cold Water Immersion Instructor Certification.   As well as the face to face there is a comprehensive suite of online learning materials (around 60 hours in total) making for a very deep immersion into all things breath holding, breathing, cold exposure and stress control.

The Apnea Survival Instructor training is a deep dive into Apnea Survival teachings, requiring the development of knowledge, and commitment to our training and philosophies, plus a bit of skin in the game to complete. This process ensures all Apnea Survival Instructors develop a high degree of knowledge and skill relative to the content they will be delivering and acquire skills enabling them to contextualise the practical application of our teachings, at set themselves apart from the crowd as trainers and coaches.  Although a moderate level of water-based competence is required to complete all water based assessments, don’t let this deter you from getting started.   Participants have twelve months from the course date to complete these. Rest assured, if you’ve done the pre- course learning, and  preparation, apply those teachings and commit to doing a bit of work, you’ll pass the physical prerequisites, and successfully complete this training.  If, for whatever reason you choose not to or are not able to complete the water based prerequisites. We will issue you with a hybrid certification based on the what you’ve completed (Breath FX / CWI and OA).

As an Apnea Survival  Instructor you’ll be leading by example, instilling confidence in the people you work with by providing high level demonstrations and explanations of our course material.  This ability underpins the foundation of our courses, maintains the a level of best practice  consistency and integrity of our instructors, brand and our industry as a whole.  All our instructor certifications have both practical and theoretical prerequisites that must be obtained to receive each certification.   A moderate but achievable level of water-based and breath holding competence is required to successfully complete the Surf Apnea Instructor requirements and assessments.  Once you register for the course youll have full access to all the course material including a 4 week introductory training program to get you started on meeting the prerequisite requirements.

Practical prerequisites / assessments

Surf Apnea Instructor – 3.30 static breath hold, 50M dynamic no fins swim (swimming 50M underwater on a single breath with out fins), 100M over under drill (Continuously swim – 25M freestyle / 25M DNF / 25M freestyle / 25M DNF), Completion of level 1 Simulated Altitude Training drill with nasal breathing only, Body Oxygen level test (BOLT) score above 30, Maximum Breathless Test (MBT)  score above 60.

Cold Water Immersion Instructor – Maintain a relaxed composure and breathing, with body and shoulders fully submerges for 3.30 in water 5 degrees C or less, Complete our 10 minute in / out challenge – 5 consecutive rounds 1min CWI / 1 minute rest in water 5 degrees C or less, respond to hypothermia (adverse CWI reaction).

Theory assessments

Following the course you’ll be required to provide video evidence of yourself presenting slides from the Surf Apnea powerpoint presentation, and on a lesson subject and delivering a course specific drill, and complete all required online assessments including a written (multiple choice exam).

  • Swim fins are not permitted when completing water based requirements of this course.

Note: We will be in the pool each mornings sometimes for up 3-4 hours. Be sure to come prepared with suitable wetsuit, swimmers and sun protection appropriate to the course location.

Apnea Survival (here after referred to as we) do not offer refunds for:  Adhoc no shows.  Non-medical withdrawals less than 14 days from an event date.  Online course purchases are final. If you purchase an online course and then you decide to withdraw from that course for any reason, regardless of whether or not you have accessed any course material, you will not be eligible for any refunded, or transfer to another course, unless that course is an upgrade to your original purchase. If you decide to withdraw from any face to face or blended / zoom event, 14 days or less prior to that event for any non-medical reason, or if you have accessed any course materials (regardless of whether the you have a medical reason), online or otherwise you will not be refunded, nor will you be transferred to another course.  However, for medical withdrawals where no refund is offered, if you have accessed online or other learning materials, at our discretion and upon receipt of your written request and submission of a medical certificate issued by a medical practitioner, we may transfer you to another course, if one is available.  Further, a medical certificate issued by a medical practitioner is required to validate any medical withdrawal from any course that may require a refund.  We will consider requests to transfer you between courses if, that request is received in writing more than 14 days prior to the event date, and pending availability of any subsequent course or date.  If your event is cancelled by us or because of  ‘acts of god’, etc outside of our control, we will provide a full refund to your method of payment, unless you have accessed online learning materials, in which case we will retain the equivalent of the course deposit fee (50% of the full price).   If your event required the payment of a deposit and you cancel or withdraw from the event for any reason (including medical), 14 days or less prior to the event,  or upon or after the date of receiving our invoice for full payment (14 days prior to the event), or you have accessed course material online or otherwise, your deposit will not be refunded.  If you have any queries regarding our refund policy please contact us prior to purchasing your course / event ticket.  Note : All course withdrawal related refunds will incur a $50.00 administration fee.  Purchasing your ticket for any event / course is acknowledgement by you that you have read, understand and accept our refund policy.
